Human Skin

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It has multiple layers of ectodermal tissue and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. Human skin is similar to other mammals, except that the mammal skin is covered with furs and human skin can appear either hairy or hairless.

Structure of the skin

Facts About Skin.
1) Skin is one of the body's natural barriers in the first line of defence. The skin is an effective barrier
against the entry of microorganisms because of its tough outer layer of closely packed dead cells.
2) Our skin colours are determined by melanin. Melanin present in the germinative zone of the
epidermis. It is produced by Melanocyte that exists in the lower layer of the skin. The more
Melanin is produced, the darker our skin will become.
3) The sweat that produced from the skin is not originally smelly. Microorganisms on the skin causes
     the sweat smelly.
4) The skin acts as a water resistant barrier so essential nutrients aren't washed out of the body.
5) Oily skin is caused by over-active sebaceous glands that produce a substance called sebum, a
naturally healthy skin lubricant. Though the oily skin helps reducing wrinkles and other signs of
aging, but it causes other problems such as blackheads, pimples and blemishes.
6) Skin contains a variety of nerve endings that react to heat and cold, touch, pressure, vibration, and
     tissue injury.
7) Excessive exposure of UV rays from sunlight can cause skin cancer.
Ways to Maintain a Healthy Skin
1) Drink plenty of water every day in order to prevent our skin from dehydrating.
2) Always use moisturizers or body lotion to keep our skin smooth and soft. Use sunscreen before
going out to protect our skin from UV rays. Sunscreen also helps prevent sunburns.
3) Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating junk foods and candy.
4) Avoid stress. Stress can only make your skin wrinkle faster than you think.
5) Exercise! Sweating helps your skin, and the strength you feel internally will start to show on your face.  Make sure to wash after you exercise, even if it means wiping your face with a warm water in a wash cloth without any cleanser.
6) Sleep regularly for 6 to 8 hours. Enough sleep can help your skin glowing and healthy.
